The topic of this period is "Describe a place that you like". It depicts the beauty of the Irish countryside and its customs from the perspective of a traveler. The author vividly describes the beauty of the countryside and the people of the countryside.

Knowledge objectives: Learn to describe familiar, interesting, exciting or surprising places.

Skill objectives: Learn to describe a scene through visual, auditory, tactile, and olfactory perspectives.

Emotional objectives: Reflecting on and exploring the historical and cultural values of domestic and especially nearby attractions.

Thinking quality objectives: felt the author's love for the Irish countryside.

Guide the students to describe the familiar places vividly and carefully, and express their feelings properly.

Step 1: Lead-in

Ask the students to look at the position of Ireland in the world map and the map of Ireland

Ask students “How much do you know about Ireland?” Students can put up their hands to answer.

Step 2

Ask the students to read the article describing the beauty of the Irish countryside with the first and second questions of activity 1.

These two questions belong to the literal comprehension problem, carefully read the passage can find the answer.

Q1: What makes the Irish countryside exciting and inspiring?

Suggested answer: Its beauty and how it offers something for all the senses.

Q2: What are the best ways to experience some lrish traditions and culture?

Suggested answer: By stopping by a village pub and relaxing with a drink and traditional meal while listening to music and watching dancing. 

Step 3

Students read the text for the second time and find the text description in answer to the third question:

“On a quiet morning in the mountains, feel the sun on your skin, and breathe in the sweet scent of fresh flowers while birds greet the new day with their morning song.” (Line 7-8)

Step 4

Let the students read this sentence several times, with their favorite way to experience the good mood.

Students may read it aloud. They can ask the companion to read aloud, oneself close the eyes meditation experience. They can also use a few words after reading to draw the outline of a rural early morning picture of birds and flowers.

Read it again and again in the way you like, and feel the beauty of it, try to describe it

Suggested answer: It means to not just smell but also breathe in the smell of fresh flowers early in the morning as the birds sing their first song of the new day.

Step5

Introduced the students to Irish traditional culture and customs.

“The colour "green" has long been associated with Ireland.

The island's lush green countryside inspired the name, "the Emerald Isle", after the green precious stone. It was first called this in a poem written in 1795.

When people around the world celebrate Saint Patrick's Day, the national day, people always wear green, as Irish sports teams do.”

Step 6

Associated with Chinese traditional culture and customs.

“What Chinese traditions and customs do you think are the most worthwhile to experience?”

“What are the best ways to experience them?”

Suggested answer: By travelling to different places and using all your senses to experience everything and by interacting with local people.

Step 7

Guides the students to analyze the structural characteristics of the description.

First of all, guide the students to pay attention to the beginning and the end of the description, let the students think about the problem: What introductory sentences and ending sentences do you usually use to describe a place?"

ldentify and underline the paragraph's introductory sentence(s) and the ending sentence(s).

 Introductory sentence: Ireland's beautiful countryside has always had a great influence on its people and traditions.

Ending sentence: And if you introduce yourself to a friendly face, you are more than likely to experience local culture and customs first-hand.

Step 8

Ask students to write the senses and places in the order that they appear. And describe sensory details

Senses- Description of senses- Places

Sight- feast for the eyes- in the green counties and hills

Hearing- roar, cries, music of the coast, morning song- by the sea

Touch- feel the sun on your skin- In the mountains

Smell- sweet scent- In the mountains

Step 9

Ask students to describe an interesting, exciting, or surprising place.

First, work in pairs. Choose one of your favorite places and tell a partner why you think it is interesting, exciting, or surprising.

Next, use the questions below to describe the place you have chosen.

What can you see?

What can you hear?

How does the place feel?

How does the place feel?

What can you taste there?

What does the place make you think or feel?

Finally, use your answers to draft a passage about the place.

Step 10

Provide sample writing, guide students to read and comment on the article.
