Step 3 reading 1.pre-reading 1.Read the title and look at the photos. What do you think the text is about? Answers : I think it is about how to solve the problems / the ways to solve the problems. The pictures show some ancient statues. They might be from Egypt. The large faces look as though they have been moved from where they first were. 2.while-reading 1).Scan the text for numbers. Circle the numbers and guess what they mean.

The numbers tell us a timeline of what happened to the dam as well as other information about protecting the dam. 3.Read the text again and answer the questions. 1.) What was the problem the Egyptian government facing with? The Egyptian government wanted to build a new dam across the Nile but the proposal led to protests. 2.)Why did the Egyptian government want to attempt the building of the dam? It wanted to build the dam to control floods, produce electricity, and supply water to more farmers in the area. In other words, it built the dam for the purpose of progress. 3. How long did it take to complete the project? The project took 20 years to complete.
